It’s hard to find good pants for travel. Especially for guys.
(And yes, after 10 years living in London I still laugh to myself even when I call them pants… Call them trousers, slacks, whatever you like…)
Jane and I pack super-light when we travel, with just one carry-on each, which means I need my clothes to be multi-purpose; they have to look good while we’re city-slicking in Helsinki and also be OK for jungle-trekking in Sri Lanka. I hate combat pants and feel ridiculous wearing those high-tech grey zip-off pants that the big outdoor gear companies make.
Also, I’m a little bit particular about my clothes. So yeah, good travelling pants are hard to find.
I was even more excited when Stefan offered us two extra pairs of pants to give away to you guys. Yeah!
(If you want to get straight to winning your own awesome pants for travel, here’s the entry form. You need a US address to win though. Sorry ’bout that.)
Why are Bluffworks pants for travel better?
As I said, I’m pretty hard to please when it comes to clothes (Jane’s note: VERY hard to please). But, after wearing my pair of Bluffworks Chinos almost every day for the last couple of months, I have to say I’m pretty pleased.
The Chinos are a new addition to the Bluffworks small family, and for a skinny guy like me who prefers a more fitted style, they’re ideal. Initially, I wanted them to be even a little more fitted, but once we were in India where it was 38ºC/100ºF, I appreciated the air flow the slightly relaxed fit provides.
If you like your pants with a little more room, the Bluffworks Original pants for travel are probably better for you.
We are giving away one pair of each below!

My Bluffworks pants are stylish enough that I didn’t feel like a grub on the streets of Milan (I got the pale blue ones for a little extra flash, but they also come in your standard guy colors like grey and tan). They are also casual enough that they don’t scream “rich tourist” like a lot of speciality travel clothes do. Magically, they were warm enough on chilly days in wintry Berlin, but they don’t leave me too sweaty in sizzling Chennai, or humid Hong Kong.
How is this possible? I don’t know, but I know it’s great.
Great features for travel
The fabric Bluffworks uses is almost entirely wrinkle-free. The pants also dry super-fast, which means I can hand-wash them at night and wear them the next day, no problem. They have a little bit of stretch to them and there is some extra room in the crotch, so I can even do full splits (Hanumanasana) in them without feeling any unwanted pinch.
“Great for street yoga” might not be a selling point for most travellers, but it also means you can use them for active stuff like rock climbing, hiking, and cycling – and even more importantly, you can be comfortable sitting on the plane for eight hours.
Probably the best thing about the Bluffworks Chinos is the hidden pockets.
Since we were just in India and are now in Hong Kong, this extra protection against quick-fingered pickpockets gives me some peace of mind. There are hidden zipped pockets inside each front pocket, which I LOVE, and one of the back pockets zips as well.
It took me a week to find the secret smartphone pocket (which is just below the back waistline) and now I use that ALL the time. I use my phone as a map and a camera (never as a phone, of course) so it’s great that it can be easily accessible and totally safe.
Finally, Bluffworks pants are designed and made in New York City, so you don’t have to support poorly regulated sweatshop conditions to get them.
Oh yeah, and of course I love their slogan:
Built for life’s every adventure
So far my Bluffworks travel pants have been ideal for an adventure traveller like me (and I really wish I’d gotten two pairs). For all the reasons I love them, they’d also be pretty great for riding your bike to work, wearing to the office, and even doing a little no-mat yoga as you live your daily adventures.
They have also just launched a line of shorts, and I can’t wait to try a pair of those.
