My Happy Home Hostel
Rating 8.7, $10/night for a dorm bed
Just a couple of minute’s walk from Izmir’s waterfront, My Happy Home Hostel provides a friendly welcome and a budget-friendly bed. According to reviews, the beds are comfortable and the hostel is extremely clean, even the shared kitchen! It’s in the heart of Izmir’s nightlife, so a great location if you want to take advantage of the busy bar and club scene.

Perla Arya Hotel
Rating 9.0, $32/night for a double room, very good breakfast included
New in 2017, the Perla Arya Hotel is clean, comfortable and modern. You’re getting serious bang for your buck here. If I was going back today, this is probably where we would stay. The included breakfast buffet offers a dizzying array of Turkish cheeses, meats and breads, so you can fill up for the day. The one minor drawback is the location – Perla Arya is a little further from the waterfront than most of Izmir’s popular hotels.

Met Boutique Hotel
Rating 9.0, $74-85/night for a double room, excellent breakfast included
Another spotless and modern hotel, Met Boutique Hotel is in the heart of Izmir, just a few minutes walk to the waterfront and close to the central market and Izmir Agora. Reviewers struggle to find anything negative to say about this place, so you know it’s gotta be good. The design is extremely modern so once inside you might struggle to remember you’re in Turkey at all.

Swissotel Grand Efes Izmir
Rating 9.3, $129/night for a double, breakfast included
We stayed here and LOVED it! Normally, we don’t recommend chain hotels, since we prefer to stay local (and to be honest, we really don’t have the money to splash out on fancy digs). However, I’m making an exception because the Swissotel Grand Efes Izmir is truly exceptional.

I was lucky enough to stay here as a guest of Visit Izmir and Swissotel Grand Efes and I couldn’t find a single thing wrong with it. The rooms are bright and modern, with every amenity you might need, the common areas are tastefully decorated with modern art that is actually beautiful (unlike most hotel art) and the breakfast buffet is a spectacular spread.
The in-hotel spa has a beautiful pool and hot tubs, offers massage, facials and other treatments. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to take advantage of the 45-minute Hammam treatment. Perhaps they’ll invite me back?
