Forget about hotels for your trip to Sarajevo. The best deals are to be had in the Sarajevo’s Airbnb apartments. These are our picks of the very best Sarajevo apartments in each budget range.
Earlier this year, I took a quick jaunt around the Balkans, visiting Bulgaria, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The biggest (pleasant) surprise of the whole trip was Sarajevo which I now rate as one of my favourite European cities.
The Old Town oozes exotic charm. There are winding cobbled streets, artisan’s tiny shops crowded with their finely crafted wares, and a welcoming coffee shop on every corner, serving the fragrant Bosnian brew.
In the new town, modern boutiques and cafes attract the young and vivacious population. Overlooking it all are the gorgeous peaks of the Danaric Alps — an idyllic backdrop.

It’s hard to imagine that 20 years ago, the city was under siege. There was little food and only one source of fresh water, the Sarajevska Pivara brewery. The daredevil act of walking down the street was likely to get you killed.
Some people credit this shared trauma with making the city into the vibrant and welcoming place it is today. Others will tell you that Sarajevo has always been that way; it has long been a hub where people of diverse backgrounds live side by side.
Either way, I loved my stay in Sarajevo and I’m pretty sure you’re gonna love it too.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, hotels are often overpriced and unattractive. The good news is that, in Sarajevo, apartments are plentiful, modern, and available at VERY reasonable prices.

What Makes a Hotel Mindful?
When at all possible, we stay in apartments, hotels, hostels, or guest houses where our money makes a positive impact in the community and the hotel minimizes its impact on the environment.
To keep our money local — instead of funnelling it into international hotel chains — we try to stay in small, family owned accommodation whenever possible. These small hotels tend to be more mindful about food, water and electricity waste and are usually less expensive than their corporate-owned counterparts.
We also focus on how a hotel might impact our own mindfulness.
We like to find places where we can feel completely relaxed — safe, clean, and welcome. Having a comfortable place to sleep every night helps us to roll out of bed in the morning as the best possible version of ourselves.
Finally, for us, hotels get a few bonus mindful points for having enough space to roll out a yoga mat and practice a little Adventure Yoga.
Why Did We Write This Guide to Sarajevo Apartments?
We write comprehensive posts about accommodation in places we’ve visited because we want to share the hours of research we do — we know that most people just don’t have the time to explore every hotel option out there!
We also know that online reviews can be misleading and confusing. Our experience has helped us learn to spot the fake reviews (and the crazy ones) a mile away!
Finally, the links we use in this post are our personal affiliate links. This means that if you use one of the links to book a hotel, we’ll get paid a small commission (at no extra cost to you!). Think of it as a GREAT way of saying thanks for all our hard work.
I hope you found our guide to the best Sarajevo Apartments useful.
